# ChatGPT Desktop Application (Mac, Windows, and Linux)

## Introduction

The ChatGPT desktop application has recently gained significant attention since it was open-sourced. It was originally designed for personal learning and research purposes. However, its popularity has led to some issues that need to be addressed for the project’s future development. In this blog post, we will discuss these issues and provide instructions on how to install and use the ChatGPT desktop application.

## Urgent Notice

Recently, a hacker has been discovered taking advantage of the popularity of lencx/ChatGPT. They have planted a Trojan horse after forking the project and rebuilt the installer. To ensure the safety of users, we highly recommend not downloading any unknown links related to this desktop application. As a precautionary measure, all other installation methods have been removed, and we now only provide the official download link [here](https://github.com/lencx/ChatGPT/releases).

## New Repository

To address the issues with repackaging and infringement, a new repository has been created. You can find it [here](https://github.com/lencx/nofwl).

## Installation

### Windows

– Direct download installer: ChatGPT_0.12.0_windows_x86_64.msi
– Install using winget:
– To install the latest version: `winget install –id=lencx.ChatGPT -e`
– To install a specific version: `winget install –id=lencx.ChatGPT -e –version 0.10.0`

Note: If the installation path and application name are the same, this may cause conflicts (issue #142).

### Mac

– Direct download installer:
– ChatGPT_0.12.0_macos_aarch64.dmg
– ChatGPT_0.12.0_macos_x86_64.dmg
– Install using Homebrew (Cask):
– `brew tap lencx/chatgpt https://github.com/lencx/ChatGPT.git`
– `brew install –cask chatgpt –no-quarantine`

If you encounter the error message “ChatGPT” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash while installing software on macOS, it may be due to security settings restrictions in macOS. To solve this problem, please try the following command in Terminal:
`sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /YOUR_PATH/ChatGPT.app`

### Linux

– Download .deb installer: ChatGPT_0.12.0_linux_x86_64.deb (small size, but poor compatibility)
– Alternatively, try the .AppImage.tar.gz if .deb fails to run: ChatGPT_0.12.0_linux_x86_64.AppImage.tar.gz

Additionally, you can use Sync Prompts to synchronize all prompts with just one click. If you prefer certain prompts not to appear in your slash commands, you have the option to disable them.
